    About the role#

    Bird Construction is seeking a Student Estimator for a 4 or 8-month co-op position starting in September 2026. Interns are assigned a supervisor and technical mentor to manage specific areas of responsibility while gaining hands-on experience in a construction environment.

    What you'll do#

    • Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to understand project scope and requirements.
    • Conduct take-offs from project drawings to develop material and labor quantity estimates.
    • Use estimating software to prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, and subcontractor quotes.
    • Assist in preparing bid proposals by organizing and compiling relevant estimating information.
    • Collaborate with senior estimators and project managers to analyze bids for accuracy and competitiveness.
    • Maintain and update cost databases, historical data, and estimating resources.
    • Support the team by tracking project bids, opportunities, and market trends.
    • Participate in project meetings and stay current with construction technologies and estimating best practices.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a degree program such as Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management.
    • Must have at least one semester of education remaining following the internship.
    • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
    • Ability to adapt to frequent changes and work effectively in a collaborative environment.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to build and maintain positive professional relationships.
    • A sense of urgency and commitment to achieving project goals.
    • Legal authorization to work in Canada.
