About the role#
The Technology department at BCI acts as a strategic partner to our business areas, enabling investment processes and long-term goals. We are looking for four interns to join our Investment Technology, Data, and Analytics teams. You will work under supervision on low-to-medium complexity projects to build digital capabilities and support our internal infrastructure.
What you'll do#
You will contribute to one or more of the following focus areas:
- Software Engineering: Design, create, test, and debug code while building, maintaining, and deploying applications.
- Data & Analytics Engineering: Perform data modeling and manage ETL/ELT processes using tools like SQL, Python, Power BI, and Databricks to provide actionable insights.
- AI Engineering: Develop AI agents, agentic workflows, and interactive applications using LLM-based tools.
- General Responsibilities: Conduct requirements gathering and perform analysis across software, automation, and data systems.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a relevant program such as Computer Science, Data Science, or Computer Engineering.
- Ability to read and write basic SQL scripts and implement or debug basic Python scripts.
- Working knowledge of AI tools like Perplexity, Claude, or Copilot.
- Familiarity with LLM-based tools for requirements gathering, code development, and problem-solving.
- Strong communication skills and a professional demeanor.
- Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- A self-starter mindset with a strong work ethic and a desire to contribute creative ideas.
Location & details#
- Term: Winter 2027 (January to April or August).
- Location: Victoria or Vancouver, British Columbia.
- Modality: On-site with the option to work from home one day per week.
- Compensation: $2,155 gross bi-weekly for undergraduate students; $2,330 gross bi-weekly for graduate students. Vacation pay is provided at 6% of salary.
- Benefits: Includes a fixed-rate travel allowance for those relocating, two paid volunteer days per year, and access to virtual health and mental health support services.
