About the role#
BCI is seeking a Digital Workplace AI and Automation Engineer intern for the Winter and Summer 2027 work terms. You will join the Technology department to design, build, and operate AI assistants, agents, and process automation within our Microsoft 365 and collaboration platforms. This role offers hands-on experience with production AI platforms, including Microsoft Foundry, Anthropic Claude, and Microsoft Copilot.
What you'll do#
- Build, test, and deploy AI agents using Microsoft Foundry and Azure Bot Service, including prompt design, guardrails, and observability.
- Develop automation scripts in PowerShell and Python for Microsoft Graph, SharePoint, Teams, Exchange, and ServiceNow REST APIs.
- Maintain automation within Azure Automation runbooks and Azure DevOps pipelines.
- Run proof of concepts on new AI capabilities and provide recommendations for adoption.
- Create reporting and dashboards to track platform usage, adoption, and health.
- Collaborate with Cyber Security, Cloud Operations, and Enterprise Architecture on identity, data protection, and permission reviews.
- Write documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles.
- Participate in agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, stand-ups, and demos.
What you'll need#
- Currently working toward a degree, diploma, or certificate in computer science, software engineering, data science, or a related technical program.
- Proficiency in Python and PowerShell, with the ability to read and extend existing code.
- Understanding of REST APIs, JSON, and authentication concepts like OAuth 2.0.
- Experience with Git version control and a willingness to work in a pull request workflow.
- Curiosity regarding large language models and prompt engineering.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- A security and privacy mindset with sound judgment regarding corporate data.
- Ability to navigate and resolve ambiguous problems.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Azure, Power Platform, Copilot Studio, or agent frameworks like MCP is an asset.
- Exposure to infrastructure as code (Terraform or Bicep) or CI/CD pipelines is an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: Victoria, British Columbia.
- Terms: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027 (January to August).
- Modality: This position is on-site in Victoria with the option to work from home one day per week.
- Employment: Full-time, paid internship.
- Compensation: $2,330 gross bi-weekly for graduate-level students; $2,155 gross bi-weekly for undergraduate-level students, plus 6% vacation pay.
