About the role#
Hatch is seeking a Structural Engineering Student for the Winter 2027 term. Based in Trail, British Columbia, this full-time, paid internship offers the opportunity to contribute to energy and industrial projects while working alongside intermediate and senior engineers. You will gain hands-on experience in an office environment and participate in site activities.
What you'll do#
- Prepare engineering drawings, design calculations, material takeoffs, technical specifications, and reports.
- Assist with structural inspections, field visits, and other site activities at existing industrial facilities.
- Develop 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD tools.
- Create FEM models using analytical software under the guidance of engineers.
- Support progress reporting and assessment for construction and condition monitoring tasks.
- Coordinate with field staff to provide project site support as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year Civil Engineering student at an accredited university.
- Completed or ongoing coursework in structural engineering.
- Familiarity with CAD and design applications such as MathCAD, Excel, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, MicroStation, and AutoCAD.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- A commitment to job safety and quality standards.
- Extracurricular involvement that demonstrates an interest in structural engineering.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
