About the role#
The Moody Makerspace provides students, faculty, and staff with access to creative tools including 3D printers, laser engravers, vinyl cutters, embroidery machines, and bike repair equipment. As a Maker Mentor, you will oversee the use of these tools and guide patrons as they work on their projects. You will assist with brainstorming, teaching, and equipment operation throughout the project lifecycle. This position starts in Fall 2026.
What you'll do#
- Consult with patrons on making activities for academic and personal projects.
- Train patrons on the use of various tools and equipment.
- Provide customer service to all visitors.
- Clean and organize the space according to assigned shift duties.
- Staff the Makerspace during open hours.
- Facilitate orientations, workshops, and trainings.
- Assist with Makerspace functions and events around campus.
- Help train new employees and improve your own familiarity with the equipment.
What you'll need#
- Strong social skills and clear communication.
- Curiosity and a love of learning.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and take initiative.
- A natural inclination towards cleanliness and organization.
- Experience with engineering, robotics, design, or shop environments is a plus.
- Enrollment in majors such as Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Computer Science.
Location & details#
- Location: Moody Library, Waco, Texas.
- Schedule: Up to 12 hours per week, with an option for up to 20 hours. Shifts are organized around your student schedule.
- Pay: $10.00 per hour.
