Student Worker - Maker Mentor

About the role#

The Moody Makerspace at Baylor University is seeking a creative and outgoing student to serve as a Maker Mentor. This role involves supporting students, faculty, and staff as they utilize creative tools and equipment, including 3D printers, laser engravers, vinyl cutters, embroidery machines, and various hand and powered tools. Mentors provide guidance throughout the project lifecycle, from initial brainstorming to final execution.

What you'll do#

• Staff the Makerspace during open hours and provide excellent customer service.
• Consult with patrons on both academic and personal projects.
• Train patrons on the safe and effective use of equipment.
• Facilitate orientations, workshops, and campus-wide Makerspace events.
• Clean and organize the facility according to shift duties.
• Assist with training new employees and completing ongoing skill development.

What you'll need#

• Strong social and communication skills.
• Curiosity, a love of learning, and the ability to take initiative.
• A natural inclination toward cleanliness and organization.
• Preferred: Experience with engineering, robotics, design, or shop environments.
• Relevant majors include Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Computer Science.

Location & details#

• Location: Moody Library, Waco, Texas.
• Term: Starting Fall 2026.
• Work Modality: On-site.
• Schedule: Up to 12–20 hours per week, organized around your student schedule.
• Compensation: Paid position at $10.00 per hour.
