About the role#
Bayer is looking for an Industrial Hygiene and Safety Intern to join the team in Soda Springs, Idaho. This position supports the production of elemental phosphorus, which is used to assist farmers in their operations. You will work on-site and gain experience in an industrial environment. This is a paid, full-time opportunity available for the Winter, Summer, or Fall 2027 terms.
What you'll do#
- Perform monitoring for chemical and physical hazards, including silica dust, noise, phosphine, CO, SO2, H2S, and welding fumes.
- Conduct quantitative respirator fit testing and audit welding fume hoods.
- Assist with safety-related and emergency response projects.
- Deliver safety and health training to staff.
- Conduct safety inspections and audits.
- Update existing safety and industrial hygiene procedures.
- Participate in incident investigations.
- Support plant-wide safety initiatives while maintaining a strong personal safety ethic.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a bachelor or master degree program in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
- Completion of your sophomore year by the start of the internship.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Prior internship or co-op experience.
- Interest or experience working in an industrial setting.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Good problem-solving, organizational, and planning skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and contribute to a diverse culture.
- Requirement to return to school following the completion of your internship term.
