About the role#
Barr Engineering Co. is seeking a civil engineering intern for the summer of 2027 to join the team in Denver. This is a full-time, paid internship that supports our Engineering and Design business unit. You will work on project teams to assist with civil engineering tasks and technical field assignments.
What you'll do#
- Complete site development designs.
- Perform civil design and analysis.
- Draft and design using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Conduct field sampling and data collection.
- Prepare construction plans and specifications.
- Assist with spreadsheet preparation, short reports, laboratory testing, and construction observation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to align technical work with project objectives.
What you'll need#
- Ongoing enrollment in a civil engineering or related degree program.
- Completion of at least two semesters of physics and three semesters of mathematics.
- At least one full-time semester of coursework remaining after the internship concludes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
- A current, valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work in locations with rough terrain, moving machinery, and other industrial site conditions.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

- Location: Denver, Colorado.
- Term: Summer 2027, for approximately three months.
- Work Modality: This position is hybrid, splitting time between the Denver office and a home office.
- Travel: You must be willing to travel and adjust your schedule to meet project needs.
