About the role#
As a Firmware Engineering intern, you will contribute to AIoT device-level infrastructure within the Platform Firmware team. You will work on camera-based products, cellular LTE links, and automated test systems. You will receive mentorship through regular 1:1 meetings and have opportunities to present your work to executive leadership.
What you'll do#
- Design and develop firmware for AIoT infrastructure, including eLinux-based SoCs and SoMs.
- Develop firmware for microcontrollers and wireless technologies like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth BLE, Sub-GHz, and cellular LTE/5G.
- Manage battery and power management sub-systems with a focus on safety and thermal performance.
- Build unit, integration, and automated tests.
- Assist electrical engineering teams with board bring-up and hardware debugging.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including manufacturing and compliance, as well as external SoC and cellular modem vendors.
- Adopt a test and metrics-first mindset to drive engineering excellence.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Programming experience in C, C++, Rust, Golang, or Python.
- Experience with kernel and user-space embedded Linux, including Yocto or OpenWRT.
- Experience with RTOS on microcontrollers.
- Ability to read datasheets and schematics.
- Skills in technical writing and architecture diagramming.
- Understanding of computer architecture, peripherals, operating systems, concurrency, and networking.
- Strong grasp of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design patterns.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
- Locations: Seattle, Washington or Boston, Massachusetts.
- Modality: Hybrid. Team members work onsite Tuesday through Friday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays.
