About the role#
The JMU Dining Extern position is a paid, full-time opportunity for the Fall 2026 term. This role is based on-site in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Please note that this position is exclusively for students currently enrolled in the HM 222 class.
What you'll do#
- Prepare and build food items by following standardized recipes and directions.
- Set up workstations, including prep tables, service counters, hot wells, and steam tables.
- Serve food to customers while maintaining guest satisfaction.
- Replenish food items and ensure products are stocked to appropriate levels.
- Break down, clean, and sanitize workstations after use.
- Store food properly according to safety standards.
- Maintain a positive demeanor and provide excellent service to guests and co-workers.
- Adhere to safety policies and ensure the security of company assets.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in the HM 222 class is required.
- Ability to obtain or hold a food safety certification.
- Strong guest service skills.
- Previous food service experience is preferred.
- Ability to meet physical demands such as lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and extended periods of standing or walking.
