About the role#
The Social Media Assistant supports the AU Honors program by managing its Instagram presence and creating digital content. This role is for a student who writes well, thinks creatively, and wants to share the stories of Honors courses, student achievements, and community life. You will work 10 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Maintain a consistent posting schedule for the AU Honors Instagram account, including feed posts, Stories, and Reels.
- Create a monthly content calendar in consultation with your supervisor.
- Draft captions and prepare photos or videos for approval.
- Track basic account analytics such as reach and engagement to provide monthly recommendations.
- Coordinate with staff, faculty, and students to gather photos, announcements, and event recaps.
- Provide social media coverage for AU Honors events, which may occasionally include evening or weekend hours.
- Ensure all content follows accessibility practices, such as including alt text.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate student at American University in good academic standing.
- Active enrollment in the AU Honors Program.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to write clear, concise, and professional captions.
- Experience creating content for Instagram or similar platforms.
- Comfort using design and editing tools like Canva, Adobe Express, or CapCut.
- Ability to meet recurring deadlines while balancing academic responsibilities.

- Location: Main Campus, Washington, DC.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Pay: $18.40 per hour.
- Schedule: Part-time, 10 hours per week.
- Term: Rolling.
