About the role#
SOC Technology Services is hiring student employees to join our team for the upcoming term. You will be cross-trained to work across various help desks and technology spaces within the School of Communication. This is a hands-on position for students interested in gaining experience in customer support, media equipment, and classroom technology.
What you'll do#
- Provide on-call assistance for faculty and staff regarding classroom technology issues.
- Answer the help desk phone and troubleshoot classroom tech-related questions or errors.
- Operate basic projection systems and AV equipment during classes and in the theater.
- Support faculty using theater space, ensure food and drink policies are met, and perform opening and closing procedures.
- Staff the equipment checkout desk and assist with check-ins and returns.
- Perform basic equipment inspections and help transfer gear.
- Assist with setup and basic operation of studio equipment.
- Provide in-room support for ongoing classes and events.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an American University student.
- Communication and problem-solving skills.
- A willingness to learn and provide support across different environments.
- Familiarity with classroom A/V systems, media production gear, or customer service is preferred.

- Location: Main Campus, Washington, DC.
- Modality: On-site.
- Employment: Part-time, 15 hours per week.
