About the role#
Baylor University is hiring student writers for the Lariat to cover news, sports, and arts and life stories. This is a paid, part-time position based in the Castellaw Communications Center. The role requires a commitment of 8 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters.
What you'll do#
- Cover a specific beat.
- Submit a weekly budget to your editor every Wednesday night.
- Write at least four stories per week, or two stories for part-time writers.
- Produce news, feature, and in-depth articles.
- Publish content to the website in a timely manner.
- Maintain constant communication with editors about daily coverage and upcoming projects.
- Take initiative while working both independently and with the team.
What you'll need#
- A solid understanding of news values.
- Ability to write accurately on deadline.
- Proficiency in news and feature writing.
- A strong command of grammar, spelling, and AP style.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with sports terminology if applying for the sports writer position.
- Preference for students majoring in Journalism, Communications, or English.

- The pay rate is $9.00 per hour.
