About the role#
This Nurse Extern II position is designed for students graduating in December 2026. You will work within the Neuro Medical Unit at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center. This role provides an opportunity to gain clinical experience while preparing for a transition into a nursing position upon graduation. The schedule requires 8 hours of work per week until graduation.
What you'll do#
- Complete activities of daily living, vital sign monitoring, and blood glucose testing under the observation of a Registered Nurse.
- Collaborate with the Registered Nurse to establish patient care plans based on health, education, and developmental needs.
- Evaluate patient responses to interventions and communicate observations to the Registered Nurse.
- Administer medication as delegated by the Registered Nurse after confirming clinical judgment and skill proficiency.
- Manage patient care, including positioning and transporting, while utilizing proper lifting and safety techniques.
- Develop delegation skills and participate in emergency care activities as qualified.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program, specifically in your final year.
- Successful completion of a Medical Surgical course that includes pharmacological concepts.
- Ability to adapt to interruptions and changing priorities in a clinical environment.
- Ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing or pulling with 30 lbs of force, and performing transfers.
