About the role#
This Nurse Extern II role is for nursing students graduating in Fall 2026. You will work on the 6 South Med/Surg/Oncology unit at Aurora Medical Center West Allis. This 34-bed unit cares for patients with medical, surgical, and oncology needs, including post-operative recovery and hospice care. You will work one 8-hour shift per week on dayshift to build your clinical foundation and prepare for a transition into a Registered Nurse role.
What you'll do#
- Complete activities of daily living, vital sign checks, and blood glucose monitoring under the observation of a Registered Nurse.
- Help the Registered Nurse establish a plan of care based on patient and family needs.
- Evaluate patient responses to interventions and communicate your observations to the nursing team.
- Administer medication as delegated by a Registered Nurse.
- Perform patient positioning and transport duties using proper lifting techniques.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in the final year of an accredited nursing program.
- Successful completion of a Medical Surgical course that includes pharmacological concepts.
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to meet physical requirements including lifting up to 50 lbs and performing patient transfers.

- Compensation: $21.85 - $32.80 per hour.
