About the role#
The Nurse Extern II program is a 16-week rotation at West Allis Medical Center designed for students graduating in Fall 2026. You will gain hands-on experience across four different Medical/Surgical units. This program helps you build clinical skills and confidence while you explore various practice areas. At the end of the rotation, you will work with unit leaders to discuss future RN placement opportunities.
What you'll do#
- Complete activities of daily living, monitor vital signs, and track blood glucose levels.
- Collaborate with the Registered Nurse to establish patient care plans.
- Administer medication under the delegation and evaluation of a Registered Nurse.
- Evaluate how patients respond to interventions and share your observations with the nursing team.
- Assist with patient positioning and transport duties.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in the final year of an accredited nursing program or recent graduation.
- Successful completion of a Medical Surgical course that includes pharmacological concepts.
- Current Basic Life Support certification.

- Schedule: One 8-hour shift per week on dayshift over 15 weeks.
