About the role#
This Nurse Extern position is based in the Progressive Care Unit at Aurora Medical Center Grafton. This is a part-time role that involves up to one 12-hour shift per week. You will work under the observation of a Registered Nurse to gain clinical experience and support patient care activities.
What you'll do#
- Complete activities of daily living, vital sign checks, and blood glucose monitoring.
- Collaborate with the Registered Nurse to establish patient care plans based on family preferences.
- Administer medication as delegated by the Registered Nurse once clinical judgment and skills are evaluated.
- Perform patient positioning and transport duties using proper lifting techniques.
- Collect and synthesize patient data to accurately identify status and needs.
- Assist in emergency situations under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program, specifically in your final year, or status as a recent graduate.
- Successful completion of a Medical Surgical course that covers pharmacological concepts.
- Ability to adapt to frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
- Capability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs and pushing or pulling with 30 lbs of force.
- Good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients and staff.

- Compensation: Paid position with a range of $21.85 to $32.80 per hour.
