About the role#
This contract position focuses on building a data-driven safety risk model to quantify and improve autonomous vehicle performance. You will work within the Safety Strategy and Operations team on a project spanning model development, empirical experimentation, and large-scale data analysis. This is a part-time role designed to complement your academic studies with hands-on project work.
What you'll do#
- Design, build, and iterate on a safety risk model to identify signals across the autonomy stack.
- Develop and maintain dataset management pipelines, including curation, labeling, versioning, and quality checks.
- Define and run empirical experiments to validate performance data.
- Analyze large-scale driving and simulation datasets to spot trends and edge cases.
- Communicate complex results and trade-offs to team members and stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a B.S. or M.S. program in a quantitative field like Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, or Physics.
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Solid understanding of data manipulation using tools such as SQL, PySpark, or Scala.
- Foundation in statistics, machine learning, and risk or reliability modeling.
- Ability to work independently on open-ended problems.
Location & details#
- This role is on-site at our offices in Foster City, California, Boston, Massachusetts, or Seattle, Washington.
- You must be able to commit to at least 20 hours per week for a minimum of three months.
- This is a paid contract position. Employment is managed through a vendor.
