About the role#
This student worker position supports the Rules of the Road program at Zoox. You will work within the Data Science team to improve the systems that automatically mine and triage potential road-rule violation events. This role involves building data miners, developing VLM and LLM workflows, and evaluating model performance against expert triage. You will join the team directly to contribute to ongoing projects.
What you'll do#
- Build and update data miners to locate potential road-rule violations.
- Develop and refine VLM and LLM pipelines for classifying road-rule events.
- Curate golden datasets and measure triager precision and recall.
- Extend existing triagers from simulation environments to fleet and service data.
- Analyze error cases to improve pipeline performance.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a B.S. or M.S. program in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Strong proficiency in Python, Pyspark, and SQL.
- Coursework in machine learning, computer vision, or NLP.
- Hands-on experience building production LLM or VLM applications.
- Experience evaluating multimodal or vision-language models.
- Familiarity with software engineering practices like Git, unit testing, and code reviews.
