About the role#
Zoox is looking for a part-time student software engineer to join the System Design and Mission Assurance team. You will work 20 hours per week for a 6-month contract. This role offers the chance to build tools and automation for safety metrics under the guidance of a senior engineer. You will be employed through a third-party vendor.
What you'll do#
- Build and implement scalable applications that automate the generation of safety metrics.
- Work with software engineers and product managers to test and develop new features.
- Optimize existing tools by improving database queries, CPU and memory usage, and latency.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a 2-year or 4-year college program in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Exposure to languages such as Python, SQL, Spark, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, or CSS.
- Experience with a front-end UI framework or a web framework like Flask or FastAPI.
- Proficiency with Google Suite or Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn JIRA and Confluence.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Bonus points for familiarity with low-level languages like Java, Kotlin, C, C++, or Rust.
- Bonus points for an understanding of firmware, ECUs, or Linux system protocols.
- Interest or experience in using AI-assisted development tools.
