About the role#
As an Electrical and Controls Engineer Intern at Zekelman Industries, you will support the engineering team by assisting with PLC, electrical, and maintenance tasks. You will gain hands-on exposure to industrial control systems while working alongside experienced Controls Technicians and PLC Specialists. This role requires collaboration with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to support safe and efficient plant operations.
What you'll do#
- Support PLC programming and troubleshooting activities.
- Assist with basic Ladder Logic edits, testing, and debugging for production equipment.
- Observe and assist with Fanuc robot programming, maintenance, and optimization.
- Participate in electrical panel walk-downs, wiring checks, and documentation updates.
- Collect and review data regarding machine performance, downtime, and automation efficiency.
- Support preventive maintenance activities for automated systems and robotic cells.
- Collaborate with teams to help resolve technical issues.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field.
- Coursework or introductory exposure to engineering, coding, PLCs, automation, or controls concepts.
- A foundational understanding of electrical engineering concepts.
- Ability to read technical diagrams or a willingness to learn.
- Comfort working in a manufacturing or plant-floor environment.
- Detail-oriented mindset with strong safety awareness and a willingness to ask questions.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship.
- The program runs from May 24, 2027, through August 13, 2027.
- This role splits time between locations in Church, Pennsylvania, and Niles, Ohio.
