About the role#
This internship focuses on Electric Distribution Standards, which covers infrastructure from the substation to the customer meter. You will work on standards for overhead and underground distribution, outdoor lighting, and communication systems. These manuals guide the design and construction of the electrical distribution system across our service areas. This is a paid, full-time summer position starting May 31, 2027, with the possibility of extending into the school year.
What you'll do#
- Research and write technical white papers on equipment, including insulating materials and compliance with industry standards like IEEE, ASTM, and ANSI.
- Analyze current equipment to identify functionally equivalent materials from multiple sources.
- Assist engineers with the development of Design and Construction Manuals.
- Support engineering teams with faulty material analysis and research into potential solutions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a sophomore or higher in an ABET accredited college or university.
- Pursuit of a degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Ability to work full-time during the summer and part-time during the school year.
- Ability to commute in-person to the work location.

- This role is based in St. Paul, Minnesota, or Denver, Colorado.
- The position follows a hybrid work model.
