About the role#
We are seeking a Bioinformatics Co-op to support our drug discovery programs. You will work within an interdisciplinary team of chemists, biologists, and software developers to advance our research in human genetics and bioinformatics. This position is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for the Winter 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Design and execute sequence-based machine learning projects to generate insights for drug discovery and target assessment.
- Build applications to support bioinformatics and human genetics pipelines using R and Python.
- Develop pipelines to determine mapping coordinates and homology of oligonucleotides to genomes and transcriptomes.
- Use AI-enabled tools to accelerate software development, data analysis, and scientific discovery.
- Contribute to best practices for storage and compute scalability of large bioinformatics datasets.
What you'll need#
- A strong background in coding and software development.
- Proficiency in Python or R scripting and familiarity with the UNIX computing environment.
- Experience with common NGS analysis tasks such as mapping reads, quantification of gene expression, and variant calling.
- Knowledge of Illumina sequencing data analysis.
- Experience with bioinformatics tools such as Samtools, GATK, Bowtie, or STAR.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or Computer Engineering.
