About the role#
The Distribution Engineering Intern provides support to the Engineering Department at WaterOne. You will assist in the design, installation, and maintenance of buried piping infrastructure. This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship running from May 17, 2027, to August 6, 2027.
What you'll do#
- Apply engineering fundamentals to develop project plans and construction designs.
- Create and review engineering sketches, drawings, and work orders for new construction and infrastructure relocation.
- Gather technical information from other utilities and engineering firms.
- Operate instruments for surveying, pressure, and flow measurements.
- Investigate customer inquiries regarding water pressure and plumbing issues.
- Assist Project Engineers with pressure monitoring, corrosion protection, and construction project management.
- Help Construction Inspectors obtain GPS data and coordinate with contractors.
- Perform hydraulic calculations and write technical specifications, memos, and letters.
- Attend project meetings and ensure compliance with relocation agreements.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering with at least two years of completed coursework.
- Commitment to the full 12-week program.
- Proficiency in GIS and computerized drafting tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and planning skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Professional demeanor and good judgment.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet company driving standards.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
Location & details#
- Location: Lenexa, Kansas.
- Work environment: You will split time between a professional office setting and field locations.
- Field work may involve exposure to extreme weather, noise, and construction sites where personal protective equipment is required.
