About the role#
This position offers an active role in learning from and assisting the Human Resources staff. You will work under the direction of the Human Resources Business Partner Supervisor to support various HR functions and projects. This is a paid, 12-week internship running from May 17, 2027, through August 6, 2027.
What you'll do#
- Assist with and execute special projects, including developing Requests for Proposals and updating retirement plan data.
- Create materials to inform and engage employees regarding benefit plans and HR programs.
- Coordinate organization-wide employee events and assist in facilitating learning and development sessions.
- Support HRIS, safety, and security-related projects.
- Shadow different departments to learn about the dynamics of a public water utility.
- Conduct peer organization surveys to research HR policies.
- Assist with recruitment tasks, such as resume screening.
- Perform routine administrative work, including personnel file audits and compliance tasks.
- Write specifications, memos, and letters.
- Attend project meetings and at least one WaterOne Board Meeting.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program with a major in human resources, public administration, business administration, or a closely related field.
- Ability to commit to the full 12-week program.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, written, and listening skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, work independently, and handle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
- Aptitude for a career in management or administrative fields.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to meet WaterOne driving standards.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening and background verification.
