About the role#
The Virginia Department of Transportation offers a paid internship program designed to introduce students to public service. What you'll do#
- Apply engineering principles and practices to assigned program areas.
- Prepare and maintain daily documentation for project activities.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on testing equipment, including proper storage and transport.
- Communicate with staff, external contacts, and consultants to resolve issues.
- Keep accurate records and enter data to meet project deadlines.
- Perform manual labor, such as handling and preparing material samples.
What you'll need#
- Current full-time enrollment in an Associate degree program or higher.
- Status as at least a rising sophomore.
- Basic knowledge of engineering principles, mathematics, algebra, and geometry.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
- Proficiency with computers, MS Office, and smartphones.
- Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment.
- Ability to maintain full-time student status before and after the internship.
