About the role#
The Virginia Department of Transportation offers a paid internship program for students pursuing degrees in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance. This role integrates academic theory with practical work experience. You will participate in planned, education-related projects that support the department's public service goals. Depending on performance and business needs, there may be opportunities to extend the internship into the academic year.
What you'll do#
- Recommend solutions to business or administrative problems to improve program effectiveness.
- Provide administrative support to assigned program areas.
- Research and compile data to create reports and presentations for various projects.
- Take ownership of special assignments and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
What you'll need#
- Current full-time enrollment in an Associate’s degree program or higher.
- Status as at least a rising sophomore or equivalent.
- Age 18 or older by the start of employment.
- Maintenance of full-time student status (9+ credit hours for graduate students or 12+ credit hours for undergraduates) before and after the internship.
- Ability to analyze data, solve problems, and interpret policies or regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Access.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with internal and external customers.
