About the role#
The Virginia Department of Transportation offers a paid internship program for students to gain practical work experience in public service. What you'll do#
- Communicate with VDOT staff, consultants, and external contacts regarding project development.
- Apply engineering principles and practices to assigned program areas.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on testing equipment.
- Prepare and maintain accurate daily documentation of project activities.
- Enter and update data in records to meet project deadlines.
- Handle and prepare material samples, which may involve manual labor.
- Read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
What you'll need#
- Current full-time enrollment in an Associate’s degree program or higher.
- Status as at least a rising sophomore or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of engineering principles.
- Minimum age of 18 by the start of employment.
- Ability to maintain full-time student status during the internship.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer software.
- Knowledge of mathematics, including algebra and geometry.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
