About the role#
Unum is hiring for a 10-week paid internship program in Portland, Maine for Summer 2026. This full-time role offers an inside look at the disability-based employee benefits marketplace. You will work in a professional office setting, gain insight into the lifecycle of a Unum case, and receive guidance from assigned mentors and sponsors. The program includes resume support, interview preparation, and skill development workshops.
What you'll do#
- Experience the full lifecycle of a case, including prospecting, quoting, selling, enrollment, onboarding, and relationship management.
- Complete a capstone presentation where you analyze an assigned business case for key leaders.
- Attend weekly information sessions and networking events with your intern cohort.
- Participate in targeted job shadows with sales and client management colleagues.
- Learn about various field and home office functions.
- Work independently and collaboratively on assigned projects for approximately 40 hours per week.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited college degree program, with a preference for rising seniors or first-year graduate students.
- A competitive GPA.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and involvement in extra-curricular activities.
- A genuine interest in sales, client management, and the insurance industry.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Majors considered include Business Administration, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Psychology, and Communications.
