About the role#
The University of South Florida is hiring a Student Assistant to support the Fire and Safety department. This role involves maintaining fire safety compliance across campus facilities. You will work on a rolling basis, assisting with inspections, equipment maintenance, and emergency drill coordination.
What you'll do#
- Perform monthly inspections and general maintenance of fire extinguishers across all USF campuses.
- Install or replace fire extinguishers that are missing or discharged.
- Support the fire extinguisher contractor during annual testing and maintenance cycles.
- Manage and update the digital inventory of extinguishers, including data entry for inspections.
- Help set up fire safety training equipment and assist with conducting annual emergency evacuation drills.
What you'll need#
- You must have a current 2026-2027 Federal Work Study (FWS) award and provide proof of this award.
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks on time.
- Preferred: Prior experience with fire extinguisher maintenance.
- Preferred: Knowledge of fire safety, prevention, and Florida building or electrical codes.
- Students in Environmental Engineering, Public Health, Nursing, or Business Administration are encouraged to apply.

- Location: Saint Petersburg, Florida.
- Modality: This is an on-site position.
- Schedule: Flexible hours available between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
