About the role#
The Safe at Home program provides a confidential address and mail forwarding service for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, human trafficking, and other crimes. As a Student Assistant, you will support the California Secretary of State office by processing participant mail, managing returned correspondence, and digitizing records. This position is part-time and requires on-site work in Sacramento.
What you'll do#
- Verify participant names and ID numbers against the Safe at Home database to prepare mail for forwarding.
- Contact participants by phone or letter to resolve issues with returned mail.
- Witness the destruction of confidential materials while following strict document retention policies.
- Create statistical reports and research office procedures to document internal processes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college student at an accredited institution on our affiliation list.
- Minimum unit enrollment of six semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduates, or four semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.
- Majors in Business Administration, Communications, Criminal Justice, Government, Law, or Family and Consumer Science.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to handle confidential information, work in a team, and maintain a consistent schedule.
- Sensitivity to caller concerns during phone interactions and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
Location & details#
- Location: Sacramento, California.
- Work schedule: Flexible hours between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
- Hours: Up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours during breaks.
- Compensation: $18.27 to $21.49 per hour.
- Requirements: You must reside in California and perform all work within the state.
