About the role#
The California State Archives is seeking three Graduate Student Assistants to join the Graduate Intern Program. This position offers an opportunity for students interested in an archival career to gain hands-on experience by working alongside professionals and scholars in the field. This is a part-time, temporary position based in Sacramento.
What you'll do#
- Review records transferred from State Government entities to determine their appropriateness for archival collections.
- Create indexes and catalog information for various collections.
- Use the State Archives collection management system to input data and conduct searches.
- Perform basic preservation tasks on historical materials.
- Provide reference services to the public through both in-person and remote channels.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a graduate student in History or a related field, taking at least four-semester units or six quarter units.
- A serious interest in pursuing a career in archival work.
- Ability to make a one-year commitment to the program.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, specifically Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
- Strong writing and research skills.
Location & details#
- This role is located in Sacramento, California, and requires on-site work.
- Work schedules are flexible between 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a required shift of 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM or 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM at least once per week.
- Students generally work up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during academic breaks.
