About the role#
The Marketing Assistant works with the American University Museum to support marketing, social media, and communications for seasonal exhibitions and programs. This position is open exclusively to currently enrolled American University students. You will work in a hybrid capacity for approximately 10 to 15 hours per week, with some on-site work at the museum and occasional weekend hours for events.
What you'll do#
- Gather information and materials from artists, curators, and museum staff.
- Identify compelling aspects of exhibitions to create accessible promotional content.
- Develop a strategic social media schedule and write promotional copy.
- Create and source visual content, including photographing exhibitions and events.
- Schedule posts in advance using Hootsuite.
- Assist with email marketing and campaign content development.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an American University student.
- Excellent writing skills and the ability to turn complex information into concise copy.
- Knowledge of social media marketing and audience-specific messaging.
- Strong visual judgment and design aesthetic, with required proficiency in Canva.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a flexible environment.
- Professional communication skills for interacting with artists, curators, and staff.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, photography, or social media video is a plus.
- Majors in Marketing, Communications, Art, or History are encouraged to apply.

- Compensation: $18.40 - $23.50 per hour.
