About the role#
The American Heart Association offers an internship for students interested in gaining hands-on experience within a non-profit health organization. This role supports the Marketing Communications lead in promoting campaigns, research, and programs to improve heart health. You will collaborate with teams across the Chicago office and the national organization.
What you'll do#
- Assist in developing news releases and press materials.
- Draft marketing communications to promote campaigns, events, and programs.
- Help plan and execute marketing and communications efforts.
- Provide ideas to support strategic marketing, public relations, and corporate communications.
- Research potential media collaborators, influencers, and opportunities.
- Prepare media coverage reports by tracking placements and sourcing clips.
- Create campaign reports and recaps.
- Develop social media content for Chicago platforms.
- Support Chicago fundraising events through communications, content capture, and speaker coordination.
- Work with development and community impact teams to manage a survivor Storybank.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a senior or graduate student in journalism, communications, public relations, or marketing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience creating or managing social media content.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Canva.
- Ability to work professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment.
- Access to reliable Wi-Fi and transportation.
Location & details#
- Location: Chicago, Illinois (Hybrid).
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 25, 2027 to May 7, 2027).
- Commitment: Minimum 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
- Office Requirement: Must work from the Chicago office on Tuesdays.
- Mandatory Event Dates: Friday, February 13 (9am to 1pm) and Friday, April 16 (4pm to 10pm).
- Status: Paid internship. This position does not provide sponsorship.
