About the role#
The State Controller's Office is hiring IT Student Assistants to join the Service Desk team. You will serve as a primary contact for the Executive Office, Information Systems Division, and other internal departments. This role offers practical experience in a professional government environment while supporting core technology services.
What you'll do#
- Act as a first level support associate to resolve technical issues via phone, email, and Teams chats.
- Support Microsoft Operating Systems, the Microsoft Desktop suite, imaging software, encryption tools, and smartphones.
- Manage tickets and serve as a support member for the BMC Service Manager Helix/Remedy system.
- Install and configure Microsoft Bitlocker encryption software.
- Install, operate, and maintain desktop images.
- Track and log technical assets in the Helix System of Record, including managing asset life cycles and deployment.
- Provide direct support to Executive Office staff at 300 and 621 Capital Mall locations.
- Assist other divisions with technical support as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college student in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related IT field.
- Ability to analyze information, reason logically, and solve complex technical problems.
- Strong communication skills to consult with users, administrators, and engineers.
- Capability to develop effective solutions and apply creative thinking to information processing methods.
- Knowledge of IT systems equipment, software, and public administration principles.
- Ability to monitor project milestones and resolve hardware or software issues.
- Preferred: Experience with executive communication, purpose-driven writing, and translating complex financial information into plain language.
