About the role#
The State Controller's Office is hiring two IT Student Assistants to support the Project Management Office. You will work under the supervision of the Section Chief to provide administrative and project coordination for the Information Systems Division. This role is a part-time, temporary position designed to provide practical experience in project governance and portfolio management.
What you'll do#
- Prepare meeting agendas and document meeting minutes.
- Update project status reports and maintain project documentation.
- Manage SharePoint project sites and organize project records.
- Support the Project Management Center of Excellence and assist with portfolio reporting.
- Provide administrative support for Risk, Issue, Action, Decision, and Change Management processes by maintaining logs and tracking action items.
- Coordinate document updates and organize project artifacts.
- Perform tasks that improve the efficiency of the PMO to assist project managers and business analysts.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college student in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related IT field with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Ability to analyze information, reason logically, and solve complex problems.
- Knowledge of public administration, IT systems, and technical report writing.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for presentations, meetings, and report creation.
- Ability to translate complex financial and government information into plain language.
- Experience in developing effective solutions and monitoring project milestones.
- Capability to work independently to secure resources and complete assignments.
- Ability to build cooperative working relationships with stakeholders and administrators.
Location & details#
- Work is performed in a remote environment. You must reside in California and perform all work within the state.
- This is a part-time, non-benefited position.
- Work schedule is flexible, Monday through Friday, between 8 AM and 5 PM.
- Students generally work up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during breaks.
