    About the role#

    The Division of Student Affairs at Sacramento State is hiring a Student Assistant to support Project Rebound's Restorative Justice Juvenile Diversion Program. You will serve as a Credible Messenger Mentor, acting as a trusted presence for youth navigating the restorative justice process. This role focuses on providing individualized, community-based support to help participants meet their goals and succeed in the community.

    What you'll do#

    • Establish and maintain consistent, supportive 1:1 mentoring relationships with youth.
    • Meet regularly in community settings to provide ongoing encouragement, accountability, and problem-solving support.
    • Act as a credible role model who helps youth identify their strengths and set goals for positive development.
    • Build authentic, respectful rapport while maintaining professional boundaries.
    • Assist youth in understanding the restorative justice process, taking responsibility for their actions, and creating restoration plans.
    • Connect participants with educational, employment, behavioral health, and recreational resources in the community.
    • Maintain communication with the program director and team regarding youth progress and engagement.
    • Participate in team meetings, case staffing, and required training sessions.
    • Document mentoring contacts and program activities in a timely manner.
    • Follow all safety, confidentiality, and professional conduct policies.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a college student at an accredited institution on the university affiliation list.
    • Minimum enrollment of six-semester units for undergraduates or four-semester units for graduate students.
    • Direct, shared lived experience with the criminal justice system or marginalized community struggles, along with demonstrated personal transformation.
    • Must be 18 years of age or older.
    • Strong interpersonal, active listening, and communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently in community settings and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Experience mentoring, tutoring, or supporting youth, particularly those involved in justice systems or systems of care.
    • Knowledge of restorative justice, reentry, or conflict resolution approaches.
    • Familiarity with Sacramento-area community resources.
    • Demonstrated cultural humility and a commitment to youth development.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Sacramento, California.
    • Work Modality: On-site.
    • Schedule: Flexible hours between 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
    • Compensation: $24.00 per hour.
    • Status: Part-time, temporary, non-benefited position.
