About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a training roadmap, gaining experience in store, district, and regional operations. This role focuses on supporting pharmacy teams while preparing you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist.
What you'll do#
- Support pharmacy teams to ensure operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled safely and accurately.
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Provide caring service to patients, including offering counseling and fielding medical questions under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions and communicate with prescribers to clarify or change medications.
- Complete basic inventory activities like cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and putting away deliveries.
- Obtain Technician Immunizer status to prepare and administer vaccines, educate patients on vaccine importance, and monitor for adverse reactions.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Comply with all laws, regulations, and company policies regarding patient safety and privacy.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Skills in mathematical reasoning, problem resolution, and clear communication.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly between duties, and verify prescription accuracy.
- Physical ability to remain upright for extended periods, reach overhead, stoop, and lift up to 20 lbs.
- Preferred: 1+ years of experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service.
- Preferred: Ability to become immunization certified and work across multiple store locations.
- Preferred: Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
