About the role#
This year-round internship provides hands-on experience in data analytics and project management within the Network Planning and Operations department. You will support the Operations Evaluation team by contributing to projects that impact stakeholders across the company, including executive leadership and various departments. This role involves managing train schedules and strategic planning for crews, locomotives, railcars, track, and terminals.
What you'll do#
- Learn and perform core business processes and systems used in Network Planning and Operations.
- Create self-service dashboards, visualizations, and performance metrics.
- Perform ad-hoc analyses to provide data-driven insights for decision-making.
- Provide operational support to department business group managers.
- Assist with project management for company initiatives and special projects.
- Build a network of professional contacts across the organization.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in mathematics, computer science, business administration, finance, operations management, supply chain management, or data science.
- Completion of at least one year of undergraduate college credits.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Excel, Access, SQL, Tableau, or Power BI.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to think critically and evaluate options.
- Basic organization and time management skills.
- Must be 18 years of age or older and authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Omaha, Nebraska.
- The role offers a hybrid work environment.
- You may work up to 40 hours per week during the summer and 15 to 20 hours per week during the academic year.
- This is a paid internship.
