About the role#
The Maintenance Operations Intern works with the Operations team to collect, analyze, and interpret data that drives business decisions. This role offers hands-on experience in reporting, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration. You will apply your technical and problem-solving skills to real-world challenges in the rail transportation industry.
What you'll do#
- Collect, organize, and analyze operational data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Build and maintain dashboards, reports, and data visualizations to support decision-making.
- Collaborate with teams to gather requirements and deliver insights.
- Perform ad hoc analyses to answer specific business questions.
- Monitor key performance indicators to improve efficiency, productivity, and service levels.
- Support process improvement projects through research, data validation, and analysis.
- Assist with data quality audits to ensure accuracy across reporting tools.
- Prepare presentations and summaries to communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Participate in team meetings, project discussions, and operational reviews.
- Work on projects including equipment trackers, overtime analysis, railroad communications, and Gemba walks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Data Science, Business Analytics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Project.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex data to various audiences.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience with data analysis tools like SQL, Python, R, Power BI, or Tableau is preferred.
- Familiarity with databases and business intelligence concepts.
- Knowledge of supply chain, logistics, fleet operations, or manufacturing processes is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship located in Hodgkins, Illinois.
- The role involves working in a general office environment.
- You may be required to travel occasionally.
- Physical requirements include the ability to remain stationary for periods, use hands for office tasks, and occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.
