About the role#
The Nurse Extern in Labor and Delivery works as a collaborative member of the health care team. You will provide basic direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role supports the unit-based shared governance council and helps promote a positive patient care experience.
What you'll do#
- Perform basic bedside care and selected procedures as directed by a Registered Nurse.
- Assist with the patient admission process by collecting assessment data and informing patients of unit routines.
- Provide basic nutritional support, including bed setup and assistance with feeding.
- Report changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse in a timely manner.
- Participate in unit-based shared governance council and committees.
- Carry out activities of daily living for patients based on their specific needs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment and good standing at an accredited school of nursing.
- Maintenance of continuous active student status.
- Successful completion of two clinical nursing rotations, including at least one Medical/Surgical rotation.
- Current BCLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays as required by staffing needs.
