About the role#
As an Occupational Therapy Intern, you will build your professional knowledge and experience while supporting our goal of helping dreams take flight. This is an unpaid, full-time internship placement. It is a rolling opportunity that supports our programs for individuals with mental illness, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and traumatic brain injuries.
What you'll do#
- Work under the direct supervision of the Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Educator, Site Mentor, or the Director of Occupational Therapy.
- Observe and actively participate in the daily functions of our occupational therapy programs.
- Implement positive behavioral supports that encourage individuals to engage in safe and meaningful activities.
- Maintain all requirements set by your university and professional accrediting bodies.
- Build positive relationships with staff and individuals supported.
- Exhibit an understanding of behavioral, emotional, and medical issues relevant to the population.
- Respond to emergency situations appropriately and maintain confidentiality.
- Accept feedback from supervisors to improve your performance.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited occupational therapy academic program (OTA, OT, or OTD).
- Eligibility for fieldwork or a doctoral capstone project as determined by your academic institution and ACOTE standards.
- A valid USA driver's license.

- Locations: Charlotte, NC and Concord, NC.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week).
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.
