About the role#
As a Nurse Extern in the Emergency Department, you will work under the direction of an RN preceptor to provide direct patient care. You will assist in assessing, planning, and evaluating patient outcomes while ensuring clear communication with the healthcare team to help patients reach their goals.
What you'll do#
- Perform nursing interventions, including medication administration and medication reconciliation, under the direction of an RN.
- Assist with diagnostic and treatment procedures as outlined in the nursing care plan.
- Help patients with activities of daily living, such as hygiene, dietary needs, ambulation, and positioning.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Transport patients, answer call lights, and report observations to the nursing team.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Registered Nurse program approved by the State Board of Nursing.
- BSN students must be entering their senior year and have completed the medical/surgical clinical component.
- Diploma or Associate students must be entering their final year of nursing school.
- Proof of continued enrollment, passing grades each semester, and good academic standing.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (CPR and AED) through the American Heart Association.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required Act 33, 34, and 73 FBI clearances.

- Work modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Based on operational need, including rotating shifts, standby, and on-call requirements.
