About the role#
As a Nurse Extern at Independence Health System, you will provide direct patient care under the guidance of an RN preceptor. This role involves an interdisciplinary approach to patient assessment and care planning. You will support the healthcare team to help patients meet their goals while maintaining a safe and sanitary environment.
What you'll do#
- Perform nursing interventions and documentation, including medication administration and reconciliation.
- Assist the RN preceptor with direct patient care, diagnostic procedures, and activities of daily living.
- Help patients with ambulating, turning, positioning, and transporting.
- Respond to call lights and report observations to the patient's nurse.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment to prevent infections.
- Demonstrate professional communication and customer service when interacting with patients and staff.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Registered Nurse Program approved by the State Board of Nursing.
- For BSN students, you must be entering your senior year and have completed the medical/surgical clinical component.
- For Diploma or Associate students, you must be entering your final year.
- Proof of continued enrollment, passing grades, and good academic standing.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

- Location: Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Shifts vary based on operational needs, including rotations, standby, and on-call. This is a full-time position.
