About the role#
As a Nurse Extern on the Med Surg 4AB unit, you will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse Preceptor. This role involves using the nursing process to provide patient care and supporting the physical and emotional health of patients and their families. You will gain hands-on experience in a clinical environment while ensuring patient goals are met through coordinated team communication.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct patient care through an interdisciplinary approach, including assessment, planning, and outcome evaluation.
- Perform nursing interventions and document care according to policy, such as medication administration, medication reconciliation, and fall or VTE prevention.
- Assist with activities of daily living, including dietary and hygiene needs, ambulating, turning, and positioning patients.
- Facilitate diagnostic and treatment procedures as outlined in the nursing care plan.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe environment to control infections and support patient safety.
- Communicate effectively with the healthcare team and provide support to patients and families.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Registered Nurse Program approved by the State Board of Nursing.
- BSN students must be entering their senior year and have completed the medical/surgical clinical component.
- Diploma or Associate students must be entering their final year of nursing school.
- Maintenance of good academic standing with proof of passing grades each semester.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

- Schedule: This is a full-time position with rotating shifts, including potential on-call or standby requirements.
