About the role#
The Nurse Extern functions as a collaborative member of the health care team. You will work under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide basic direct patient care. This role is designed to help you build clinical skills and experience as you progress toward becoming a Registered Nurse.
What you'll do#
- Perform basic bedside care and clinical procedures under the supervision of an RN.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living and provide nutritional support, including feeding and intake documentation.
- Help with the patient admission process by collecting data and preparing rooms.
- Report changes in patient conditions to the nursing staff in a timely manner.
- Support the unit-based shared governance council and participate in committees.
- Engage in self-appraisal and seek feedback to improve your clinical performance.
- Maintain your skills and competence through ongoing education and training.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing with active student status.
- Successful completion of two clinical nursing rotations, including at least one Medical/Surgical rotation.
- Current BCLS certification.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- A commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Preference is given to those enrolled in a bachelor's degree program.

- Location: Pontiac, Michigan.
- Modality: On-site.
- Employment: Part-time with a rolling term.
- Schedule: Rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed.
