About the role#
Trane Technologies is seeking a Controls Technician Intern for the Summer 2026 term. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Madison, Wisconsin. Interns will work alongside controls technicians and project managers to gain experience in building automation, HVAC controls, and industry standards.
What you'll do#
- Document point to point verification, sequence of operations validation, and job close out requirements.
- Serve as a direct customer contact, identifying, diagnosing, and repairing equipment and systems at customer locations.
- Coordinate with team leaders, mentors, and customers to understand installation and repair requirements, forecast issues, and gather materials.
- Keep current on Trane products regarding the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of direct digital control systems.
- Maintain security and accountability of company assets by recording use, wear, and conditions.
- Perform tasks including commissioning, programming, setting up graphics, communications links, and end to end testing.
- Maintain flexibility to work overtime as business requires, which may include occasional overnight stays.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or equivalent; technical school or formal training is preferred.
- Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
- Working proficiency with handheld computers, such as smartphones or tablets.
- A valid driver’s license held for a minimum of 12 months with a clean driving record.
- Ability to adhere to strict safety standards.
