About the role#
As an Autonomy & Robotics Engineering Intern, you will work with a team of engineers to support the development of autonomous behaviors, machine perception, and robotic control systems. You will gain experience in algorithm development, simulation, and hardware integration for unmanned aerial systems and other advanced platforms. This role provides a hands-on opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to real-world autonomy applications while receiving mentorship from senior engineers.
What you'll do#
- Design, implement, and test algorithms for computer vision, object tracking, and target detection.
- Develop and test Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) algorithms integrated with visual sensors.
- Work on state estimation using inertial and visual data.
- Create autonomous behavior models and support path planning and multi-vehicle coordination.
- Develop and debug autonomy software on simulation platforms and real hardware.
- Collaborate on testing, data collection, and experimental design.
- Participate in code reviews and integration efforts across teams.
- Document and present findings in internal reports.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
- Coursework or project experience in robotics, autonomy, or computer vision.
- Proficiency in C/C++ (C++11 or later preferred).
- Familiarity with Python or MATLAB for data analysis and prototyping.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to learn and collaborate in a hands-on environment.
- Interest in working with UAS, robotics, or autonomous systems.
- Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS) is a plus.
- Familiarity with vision-based perception, trajectory planning, GNC algorithms, or control systems.
- Exposure to embedded systems, low SWaP devices, simulation tools, or real-time systems.
- Involvement in robotics competitions, clubs, or research projects.
