About the role#
KGO-TV (ABC7) is an ABC-owned television station based in San Francisco. As a 7 On Your Side intern, you will work with the team that produces consumer news segments for the San Francisco Bay Area. You will gain experience in news production while learning how to find, craft, and distribute stories. This role runs from January 2027 through early June 2027.
What you'll do#
- Monitor daily consumer news to identify potential stories.
- Conduct research for producers, including web research and verifying data over the phone.
- Cross-check information across multiple sources.
- Review viewer responses to find compelling stories and compile data from these messages.
- Support consumer counselors in answering viewer emails.
- Present viewer issues to relevant companies and agencies.
- Assist producers with tasks in the field.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited college or university.
- At least 18 years of age with unrestricted work authorization.
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and Google Sheets.
- Ability to create and maintain spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience managing research and organizing multiple projects.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
- Previous academic or internship experience in journalism, television production, or news media.
- Familiarity with AP style writing, Adobe Premiere, Airtable, and camera or lighting equipment is preferred.
Location & details#
- This internship is located in San Francisco, California.
- The role is on-site and requires a consistent schedule of 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
- You must provide your own housing and transportation.
- This is a paid internship at $23.00 per hour.
