About the role#
The Student Technician provides hands-on assistance to researchers on multidisciplinary projects at the Texas A&M Institute for Preclinical Studies. This position involves performing daily animal care and husbandry tasks in accordance with standard operating procedures. You will work with minimal instruction to ensure research animals are properly maintained and monitored.
What you'll do#
- Perform daily husbandry duties including feeding, watering, and animal health checks.
- Provide enrichment and conduct environmental monitoring.
- Assist with animal surgery and tissue collection days.
- Handle the transportation of animals as required.
- Work in various conditions, including environments with high humidity or temperature.
- Stand for extended periods and lift or move objects of varying weights.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student at Texas A&M University.
- Preferred majors include Biology, Animal Science, Nutrition, Biomedical Sciences, Agriculture, or related fields.
- Ability to manage time effectively and follow instructions with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and a dependable work ethic.
- Willingness to perform both technical and routine tasks.
