About the role#
The Student Financial Aid Counselor II provides essential guidance to students and parents regarding financial aid programs, eligibility, and account management. As part of the CARE team, you will help students navigate the complexities of financing their education through personalized counseling and outreach. This role requires a balance of administrative precision and a strong commitment to student support, working closely with colleagues in academic advising and career services to ensure students remain informed and on track.
What you'll do#
- Manage daily case files, providing advisement on affordability, costs, and payment options.
- Conduct Financial Aid 101 workshops, financial literacy trainings, and other outreach events.
- Assist students with FAFSA completion, document verification, and renewal processes.
- Perform proactive outreach via phone, email, and text to help students manage bills and refunds.
- Collaborate with campus partners to build a cohesive support network for students and families.
- Support retention efforts by suggesting academic strategies that align with financial aid requirements.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience (five years total for those without a degree).
- One year of related experience in higher education, specifically within financial aid, admissions, or case management.
- Strong knowledge of financial aid rules, regulations, and verification processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a focus on customer service.
- Ability to interpret complex policies and apply them to individual student situations.
- Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications.
